JRI’s Connecticut Group Homes serve youth and young adults with developmental disabilities who have experienced challenging life events. Each client receives 24/7 supervision and therapeutic support in a safe, nurturing environment that promotes healing, personal growth, and increased independence.

Residents attend school, work, or participate in vocational programs within the community, building life skills and social connections every day.

Our Approach

Our team is trained in the Attachment, Self-Regulation, and Competency (ARC) framework. This trauma-informed model helps youth rebuild trust, develop emotional regulation skills, and strengthen their sense of self.

Youth often arrive with disrupted attachment histories and multiple placements. We help them rebuild through:

  • Strong, supportive relationships with staff and peers
  • Targeted self-regulation strategies
  • Personalized activities that foster confidence and joy
  • A structured environment that prioritizes consistency, safety, and growth

River’s Edge Group Home

Thompson, CT (Adjacent to JRI’s Susan Wayne Center of Excellence)

River’s Edge provides a therapeutic home for adolescent girls (ages 13–20) facing behavioral, mental health, and cognitive challenges. The program offers:

  • Residential, clinical, and nursing support
  • Trauma-informed behavioral care
  • Case management and community re-integration planning

Youth at River’s Edge also enjoy:

  • Life skills and social development through job training and community engagement
  • Recreation opportunities including a gym, ropes course, and animal care area
  • Individualized competency plans to support growth and identity

Chesterfield Group Home

Oakdale, CT (Two-acre property)

Chesterfield provides a therapeutic home for young men involved with Connecticut DCF. The program focuses on helping residents build the skills, confidence, and support networks needed to transition to adulthood.

We provide:

  • A clean, respectful living environment
  • Trauma-informed therapeutic support via the ARC model
  • Daily life-skills education in budgeting, hygiene, cooking, and more
  • Community connections through outings, volunteer work, and job support
  • Youth voice in planning goals and treatment to foster ownership and self-direction

Each individual has their own bedroom and access to shared common spaces.

We have staff on site 24 hours daily. Each person has an individualized day structure that includes school, job skills training, volunteering, or obtaining employment.

Yes, we accept and work with youth who have a range of mental health and developmental challenges.

The group home serves four individuals who receive clinical, medical, and milieu services 24 hours a day. The care is individualized and specific to each youth's needs.
