JRI Launches Nutrition Initiative with Hands-On Training in Lawrence

JRI officially launched the JRI Nutrition Initiative with a live, in-person introductory training at our new space in Lawrence. The session, led by Stephanie Sladen, featured an experiential food workshop that brought the connection between nutrition and mental health to life. Jenese also spoke about how access to good nutrition is central to JRI’s social justice mission.

The JRI Nutrition Initiative was created in response to the strong bi-directional link between mental health and nutrition. Supporting staff, youth, and families with access to healthy, whole foods is an essential part of promoting both physical and emotional wellness.

During the launch event, participants prepared and tasted energy bites made from nutritious whole food ingredients such as prebiotic, protein-rich oats and melatonin-boosting cherries. These simple, delicious snacks provided a hands-on way to explore how everyday food choices can support mental wellness and overall health.

The recipe and workshop offered attendees a fun, interactive experience that they can share with youth, families, and colleagues across JRI programs.
