Supporting People in Making Change: Motivational Interviewing and Harm Reduction

This session is an important introduction to direct service work and is highly recommended. It includes thorough discussion of stages of behavior change including client motivation, the factors that may keep people in unhealthy patterns, harm reduction and its strategies, and techniques to assist clients in recognizing their reasons and readiness to change. Finally, this session incorporates training on the Brief Negotiated Interview, an evidence-based intervention that has been shown to be an effective tool for brief sessions on behavior change.

This is recommended as full day training, but can be done in shorter sessions.
