Trauma Informed Trainings

JRI is excited to share 2 training opportunities that can expand your capacity in better understanding trauma reactive behaviors in your clients or your own children as well as vicarious trauma and burnout in yourself. Register for one training or both!

Many people have reported an increase in personal, financial and/or political stressors and its impact on their functioning. More and more we are expected to perform at our normal levels while we are experiencing new, and increasing, stressors and crisis. It is important for us to understand and recognize how these stressors are affecting us and to have concrete tools to use in the moment to help mitigate the impact. These topics can be approached as individual training opportunities or combined to present a holistic approach to recognizing and responding to trauma in our environments while caring for and supporting others.

Session #1 10:00am-12:00pm – Introduction to Trauma Informed Care is intended to introduce individuals to a basic understanding of the human stress response continuum, recognizing factors which can contribute to our trauma responses, and how that may manifest physically as well as behaviorally. Additionally, this module introduces trauma informed strategies to help caregivers consider how to stabilize dysregulated individuals. Individuals will receive concrete tools and break out discussion opportunities to consider practical applications in their own environments as well as how to adapt and adjust our responses to be both supportive and safe for ourselves and others.

Presenter Adam Edwards

Session #2 1:00pm-3:00pm - Vicarious Trauma and Self Care training is intended to provide individuals with concrete tools to support strong, attainable self-care practices and resiliency. People working in caregiving/helping roles often experience a lot of trauma and stress as they are providing care to others. If this is not addressed it can lead to burnout, which is one of the reasons there is a high turnover rate in the field. While systemic changes are necessary it is also critical for the people to realize ways that they are impacted by caring for others and create a specific plan that addresses their self-care needs across a variety of domains. At the end of this training participants will understand why an active self-care plan is critical to sustainability in caregiving and will have identified things they can do for their self-care that are specific and personalized for them.

Presenter Deborah Jackson
